Four employers ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (August 19) obtained one order for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $1,100,000 against three employers in the District Court. Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued one claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $12,000 on behalf of one employee, who was owed MPF contributions by the employer.

     The District Court today issued judgments against three employers, namely, Gogobus Management Limited, Choi Ming Restaurant (Holdings) Ltd and Tsoi Hak Kin trading as Photography Publishers. The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA the sums of $767,999.29, $288,946.76 and $80,090, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 29, 33 and four employees of the defendants respectively.

     Meanwhile, at the tribunal's hearing today, the defendant, Wisdom Color Separation Company Limited, did not appear. In its absence, the adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $12,431.79, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendants each to pay costs of $930. The tribunal ordered the defendant to pay $120 as the costs in respect of the claim.
