Eight employers ordered to pay MPF non-payments

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (August 1) pursued eight claims in the Small Claims Tribunal on behalf of 27 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the tribunal's hearing, Ng Fat Tak trading as New Tak Shing Restaurant and Yip Hing Aluminium Company Limited, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $40,350 and $7,397.80, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other six defendants, Grandroy Investments Limited trading as Worldart Restaurant & Kitchen, Lead Young Sea & Air Freight Co. Limited, Great Source Engineering Limited, Lau Yuk King and Lui Shu Kee trading as Lui Shu Kee and Lau Yuk King Co., Kruse Electronic Components (Hong Kong) Limited and Deschamps Catering Company Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $41,150.01, $34,063.48, $12,169.12, $3,562.50, $2,287.15 and $1,239.65, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded at the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $170, $118, $262, $160, $65, $150, $45 and $76.
