A man was today (July 16) fined $1,000 at the Kowloon City Magistrates' Court for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.
The court heard that the clubhouse in Nathan Road, Mong Kok, had been operating with a certificate of compliance (CoC) under the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance. Officers of the Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) of the Home Affairs Department conducted a decoy inspection of the club in January this year. OLA officers, posing as customers, patronised the clubhouse for food and drinks without being asked to show his membership status or invited to join the club as members.
The man, operator of the clubhouse, was found to be in contravention of the Special Condition 1 of the CoC. He was subsequently charged with contravening Section 21(1)(a) of the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.
A spokesman for the department said enforcement action would continue to be taken against illegal clubhouse operations.
