Ten employers ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (July 8) obtained one order for payment of outstanding MPF contributions of about $190,000 against an employer in the District Court. Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued nine claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $240,000 on behalf of 112 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

    The District Court today issued judgment against one employer, Express- Mail Transportation International Company Limited. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA the sum of $199,698.59, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to eight employees of the defendant.

    Meanwhile, at the tribunal's hearing today, four defendants, namely, Gift Line Company Limited, Ng Fat Tak Trading as New Tak Shing Restaurant, City Linker Engineering Limited and Fidelity Concept Development Limited trading as Royal Plaza Restaurant, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $34,965, $28,698.36, $13,059.78 and $7,376.46, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

    The other five defendants, namely, Szu Long Limited trading as Ho Yuen Restaurant, Lead Young Sea & Air Freight Co., Limited, Selpro Tactical Limited, Millennium House Company Limited and Fashion Tex International (HK) Limited, did not appear at today¡¦s hearing. In their absence, the adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $48,882.28, $48,755.89, $33,966.34, $26,823.86 and $6,693.75, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

    The amounts awarded at both the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees¡¦ MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendant to pay costs of $930. The tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay $186, $120, $96, $90, $160, $176, $176, $126 and $166 as the costs in respect of the claims.
