LegCo to Debate the Valedictory Motion

    The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

    The Legislative Council will hold a meeting this Wednesday (July 9) at 11 am in the Chamber of the Legislative Council Building. During the meeting, Members will debate the Valedictory Motion.

    The motion, to be moved by Hon Miriam LAU, states: "That this Council concludes its work and wishes for the smooth formation of the fourth Legislative Council to continue to serve the people of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.ˇ¨

    On Membersˇ¦ motion, Hon Albert CHAN will move a resolution under the Interpretation and General Clauses Ordinance to repeal the Food Business (Amendment) Regulation 2008, which was laid on the table of the Legislative Council on July 2, 2008.

    On Government motions, the Secretary for Development will move a resolution under the Interpretation and General Clauses Ordinance to amend the Building (Planning) (Amendment) Regulation 2008, which was laid on the table of the Legislative Council on May 21, 2008. Hon Tommy CHEUNG will also move a resolution under the Interpretation and General Clauses Ordinance to amend the regulation.

    The Secretary for Development will move another resolution under the Interpretation and General Clauses Ordinance to amend the Building (Refuse Storage and Material Recovery Chambers and Refuse Chutes) (Amendment) Regulation 2008, which was laid on the table of the Legislative Council on May 21, 2008.

    The Secretary for Transport and Housing will also move a resolution under the Dutiable Commodities Ordinance to amend Part III of Schedule 1 of the ordinance.

    On bills, Second Reading Debates on the Race Discrimination Bill, the Independent Police Complaints Council Bill, the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes (Amendment) Bill 2008, the Air Pollution Control (Amendment) Bill 2008 and the Product Eco-responsibility Bill will resume. If the Bills are supported by Members and receive their Second Readings, they will then go through the Committee Stage and be read the third time.

    Moreover, Hon Mrs Sophie LEUNG, Chairman of the Committee on Members' Interests, will present the Report of the Committee and address the Council. Hon TSANG Yok-sing, Chairman of the Committee on Rules of Procedure, will present the Progress Report of the Committee for the 2007-2008 session and address the Council. Hon LAU Chin-shek, Chairman of the Panel on Manpower; Hon Howard YOUNG, Chairman of the Panel on Public Service; Hon Margaret NG, Chairman of the Panel on Administration of Justice and Legal Services; Hon CHOY So-yuk, Chairman of the Panel on Home Affairs; Hon Andrew CHENG, Chairman of the Panel on Transport; Hon LAU Wong-fat, Chairman of the Panel on Development; Hon Albert Jinghan CHENG, Chairman of the Panel on Information Technology and Broadcasting, will present the 2007-2008 Reports of the related Panels and address the Council respectively.

    During the meeting, Members will also ask the Administration 20 questions on various policy areas, six of which require oral replies.
