Vice-President Xi arrives in Hong Kong (with photos/video)

    Vice-President Xi Jinping arrived in Hong Kong this morning (July 6) for a three-day visit at the invitation of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.

    Arriving from Shenzhen Huanggang at 10.18 am, Mr Xi was greeted at the Lok Ma Chau crossing by the Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang.

    Other members of the HKSAR welcoming party included Chief Secretary for Administration Mr Henry Tang, Financial Secretary Mr John C Tsang and Secretary for Justice Mr Wong Yan Lung, SC.

    Speaking to reporters at Lok Ma Chau, Mr Xi said that during his visit he would see the progress of Hong Kongˇ¦s preparations for the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Events and the changes in the territory 11 years after reunification.

    Mr Xi said the HKSAR Government and people from the various sectors had put a lot of effort in the past three years into preparing for the Equestrian Events. He would learn about the latest developments and encourage everyone to keep up their work.

    Mr Xi said that this was his first visit to Hong Kong as a member of the Central Government. He would try to visit more places and learn more about Hong Kong. He also conveyed the thanks of the Central Government to the HKSAR Government and Hong Kong people for their assistance in the quake rescue and relief efforts.
