The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (June 18) obtained one order for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $53,000 against an employer in the District Court. Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued five claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $110,000 on behalf of 25 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
The District Court today issued judgment against one employer, Lam Kwok Keung trading as Lucky Heavy Machinery Eng. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA the sum of $53,645, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to four employees of the defendant.
Meanwhile, at the tribunal¡¦s hearing today, two defendants, Clexpert Computer Limited and Chun Wui Tourist Bus Company Limited formerly known as C & M Travel Agency Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sum of $49,440 and $21,094.79, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other three defendants, Szu Long Limited trading as Ho Yuen Restaurant, Elique Limited and Supreme International Trading Limited trading as Mini Paris Vietnamese Restaurant, did not appear at today¡¦s hearing. In their absence, the adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $38,902.5, $3,324.94 and $56.5, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees¡¦ MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendant to pay costs of $930. The tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay $176, $190, $160, $80 and $146 as the costs in respect of the claims.
