Company fined for illegal clubhouse operation
*********************************************

A company and a woman were each fined $2,000 today (June 18) for contravening the conditions of the Certificate of Compliance (CoC) as required under Section 21 of the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

The Kowloon City Magistrates' Court heard that the company in Nathan Road, Mong Kok, had been operating with a CoC under the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.  Officers of the Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) of the Home Affairs Department conducted a decoy inspection of the club in December last year.  OLA officers, posing as customers, patronised the clubhouse for food and drinks without being asked to show their membership status and without being invited to join the club as members.

The company, operator of the clubhouse, and the woman, holder of the CoC, were therefore found to be in contravention of Section 21 of the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance and were charged.

A spokesman for the department said robust enforcement action would continue to be taken against illegal clubhouse operations.
