Hongkong Post extends deadline to buy giant panda fund-raising stamps (with photo)
**************************************************

Due to the overwhelming response from the public for the fund-raising limited edition prestige stamp products with giant panda paw print, Hongkong Post has extended the deadline for subscription from June 19 to June 23.

Since being "appointed" by the giant pandas Ying Ying and Le Le to produce stamp products to raise funds for the rebuilding of panda facilities in their homeland, Sichuan, Hongkong Post has swiftly produced a prestige stamp box set containing a genuine clay impression of Ying Ying or Le Leˇ¦s paw print with support from Ocean Park.

Public response has been excellent and the demand for this product has far exceeded the original quantity of 10 sets. The response for another limited edition prestige stamp pack bearing the image of the panda paw print has also exceeded expectations. Both products come with a thank you letter from Ying Ying and Le Le. Details of the products and sales arrangements are given in the Appendix.

The Postmaster General, Mr Tam Wing-pong said, ˇ§To date we have received 91 applications for the 10 stamp box sets and over 2,000 applications for the stamp packs. While we cannot produce more of the box set, we shall make available a further 2,000 stamp packs to meet the overwhelming demand. If all sold, we should be able to make $1.5 million for the rebuilding fund.ˇ¨

Of the 2,000 additional stamp packs, 500 packs will be put on sale at Ocean Park Hong Kong on July 1. All proceeds from the sale of the two limited edition stamp products will be donated to the ˇ§Sichuan Earthquake Relief Giant Panda Base Rebuilding Fundˇ¨ set up by the Ocean Park Conservation Foundation of Hong Kong.
