Five employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (June 10) pursued five claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $58,000 on behalf of six employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

    At the tribunal's hearing today, Englandfox Interior Design and Decoration Limited, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $18,900, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

    The other four defendants, Tsang Tak Ping trading as Tsang Tak Kee Vegetable, Poon Chan Wah trading as Kam Hing Company, Mishe Limited and Top Spread Group Limited trading as Maple Classic, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $20,182.12, $15,025.50, 3,015.25 and $989.42, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

    The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $126, $200, $90, $106 and $165.
