Visit to the Customs Drug Detector Dog Base (with photo)
********************************************************

A group of members of the government youth portal, youth.gov.hk, today (May 10) gained a chance to meet with Drug Detector Dogs of the Customs and Excise (C&E) Department.

Lucky members registered with the website from February through April were invited to visit the Lok Ma Chau Customs Drug Detector Dog Base, an on-ground function for members supported by the C&E Department.

Opened in 2005, the Lok Ma Chau Customs Drug Detector Dog Base, currently is stationed by four drug detector dogs. It supports adjacent immigration control points and cargo terminals with detection services for drugs and other prohibited items. During today's visit, members learnt more about the daily operations of the C&E Department, and saw for themselves how the dogs were trained and led in a sniffing operation.

Revamped in March, the government youth portal launched a membership scheme, under which registered members were invited to various interesting functions and workshops, such as the creative workshop with media veteran Lawrence Cheng, the scheme debut activity held earlier in March.

To bring a closer relationship upon the government and the young online community, the portal strived to find more opportunities to meet with its members. Today's visit was a sequel to the successful workshop, and was also a first for the portal to work in collaboration with another government department in bringing about such a unique event.

More new contents are on the way to satisfy the ever-growing needs of young people in Hong Kong. The website have joined hands with entities familiar to teenagers, such as Commercial Radio Hong Kong and the famous local cartoon character "McDull", to bring in projects on popular topics in Hong Kong and China alike, which are scheduled to roll out to our young audience in different phases. In the coming summer, a special page on study tours to the Mainland will be launched as well, hoping to provide students the necessary information to participate in these programmes. For more information on the exciting columns, stay tuned to the portal website www.youth.gov.hk.
