The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (March 18) obtained one order in the District Court for payment of outstanding MPF contributions of about $200,000 against an employer. Meanwhile, the MPFA also pursued eight claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $168,000 on behalf of 21 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
The District Court issued judgments against one employer, M & P Logistics Limited. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA the sum of $201,709.78, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to six employees of the defendant.
At the tribunal's hearing today, four defendants, namely Hung Wainor Vina trading as Mitay Employment Centre, Lam Chak Ming, Chan Kin Tak trading as Chan Lam Lee Car Shed, and Kirin Technology Limited did not dispute the amount claimed. The sdjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $34,724.52, $22,800, $17,578.02 and $8,533.75, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other four defendants, namely Shun Wai Moulding Design Factory Limited, Tong Yiu Ming trading as Kai Hin Decoration & Engineering Co, Ever Global (H.K.) Limited and Pridehill Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $44,223.68, $28,971.22, $8,321.26 and $2,971.27, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded at both the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendant to pay costs of $930. The tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay $230, $170, $180, $106, $245, $180, $158 and $96 as costs in respect of the claims.
