Youth training and employment schemes to start recruitment
**********************************************************

The Youth Pre-employment Training Programme (YPTP) and the Youth Work Experience and Training Scheme (YWETS) organised by the Labour Department will start a new phase of trainee recruitment tomorrow (February 16).  Application is open to young people aged 15 to 24 free of charge.

"The two programmes aim to enhance young people's job skills, work experience and credentials through a wide range of pre-employment and on-the-job training," a spokesman for the department said.

"The YPTP provides modular pre-employment training on leadership, discipline and team building, job-search and interpersonal skills, as well as computer application and job-specific skills.  Over the past eight years, 80,000 young people have received training under YPTP.  In collaboration with YPTP, YWETS provides on-the-job training of six to 12 months through real work opportunities.  Since its inception in 2002, over 54,000 trainees have secured employment under YWETS."

"To help trainees navigate the course of training and employment, case managers who are registered social workers provide personalised career counselling and support service to each trainee," the spokesman added.

Application forms can be obtained from the YPTP and YWETS offices, Job Centres and the Youth Employment Start of the Labour Department, Public Enquiry Service Centres of the Home Affairs Department, District Offices of the Social Welfare Department, and designated training bodies, as well as the website of Youth Employment Services (www.yes.labour.gov.hk).  Applicants aged 18 or above can submit applications on-line.  For enquiries, please call 2112 9932.
