The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (January 14) pursued four claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $70,000 on behalf of 17 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
At the tribunal's hearing today, the three defendants, Wong Chi Ming trading as Ying Fung Transportation Co., Hui Kwong On trading as Nam Wah Tung Kong Restaurant and Ngan Chin Fan trading as Sam Hing Frozen Meat, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $34,702.12, $28,607.3 and $3,150 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other defendant, Best Tide Investment Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In its absence, the adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $4,841.12, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $270, $160, $140 and $146 as the costs in respect of the claims.
