The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (January 9) pursued seven claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $110,000 on behalf of 51 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
At the tribunal's hearing today, four defendants, Ho Wai Fong & Ho Chiu Ming trading as Kin Hing Printing Press, Midland Logistics Limited, Wing Cheong Dispensary Limited and Sit Chi Tim trading as Hoi Tin Garden Restaurant, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sum of $32,401.72, $18,857.16, $16,511 and $6,920, respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other three defendants, Yim To Chun trading as Ming Fat Transport Co., Top System Investments Limited and Waheungai Company Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $18,786.39, $9,159.82 and $8,204.86, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $200, $126, $106, $320, $180, $96 and $132 as the costs in respect of the claims.
