**********************************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present a New Year's Eve Countdown Carnival at Sha Tin Park.

The carnival starts at 8.30pm on December 31, 2007, and runs until 12.30am, January 1, 2008. Admission is free.

The theme of the carnival is SportsArt fusing arts and sports programmes on a unique crossover platform on which elite athletes, musicians, dancers and overseas artists will perform.

These programmes include orchestral concerts, artistic skating, rhythmic gymnastics, choral singing, Argentine tango, trampolining, rope skipping, jazz and cheering dance, music by live bands and hip hop dancing.

Fusing traditional and contemporary circus, theatrical and dance techniques, two colourfully costumed dancers from Arabesque Aerial Theatre of the United Kingdom will perform aerial SportsArt.

The cinema at the carnival will show sporting events in three dimensions and audiences can experience the thrill of the shows by watching them with 3D glasses.

Local singer-songwriters will bring fresh notes, while roving entertainers will greet visitors to the carnival and amuse them with performances.

There will also be games stalls and illusion houses to add more fun to the carnival.

A prelude to the Countdown Carnival featuring programme highlights will be held on December 30 from 4pm to 6pm.

The public is urged to help keep the public areas clean and to respect public property. Aerosol sprays, metallic balloons and bottles are prohibited at the venues.
