Four employers ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (November 23) pursued four claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $90,000 on behalf of 15 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the tribunal's hearing today, three defendants, Cheung Yim Sing formerly trading as Chi Kin Transportation Co., Full Marks Industries Limited and Poon Ng Tang trading as Pun Kee Construction Co., did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $38,984.18, $38,340.69 and $10,967.26, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other defendant, Wong Suk Ling trading as Grands Way Trading Company, did not appear at today's hearing. In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $9,069.19, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay  $230, $180, $90 and $150 as the costs in respect of the claims.
