The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (November 14) pursued four claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $60,000 on behalf of seven employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
The four defendants, Dragon Lake Holdings Limited trading as Typhoon Shelter Sea View Restaurant, Wellking Century Limited formerly trading as Hung Lee Restaurant, Ever Classic Limited trading as Beautyquad Elixir and Honest League Limited formerly trading as Lai Chun Kok Restaurant (translation), did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $31,297.39, $26,584.22, $1,554.32 and $1,543.19 being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $120, $306, $79 and $156.
