The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (November 2) obtained two orders in the District Court for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $480,000 against two employers. Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued four claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $38,000 on behalf of five employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
The District Court today issued judgments against two employers, Chi Ho Offset Printing Company Limited and Wing Tak Printers Limited. The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA $403,566.72 and $78,070.51, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to nine and seven employees of the defendants respectively.
At the tribunal's hearing today, defendants Poon Ng Tang trading as Pun Kee Construction Co, and Win Double Limited trading as Winning Cafe, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $8,518.04 and $8,043.92, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other two defendants, Harvard Engineering Limited and Forest Spring Engineering Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $16,415.49 and $5,306.68, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court further ordered the defendants to pay costs of $930 and the tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $130, $146, $76 and $96.
Harvard Engineering Limited previously pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy to one count of failing to make MPF contributions on time and was fined $7,000.
