The following is issued on behalf of The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (October 22) pursued nine claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $230,000 on behalf of 39 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
Six defendants - Sung Yuen Kwok and Chan Kit Ying Jo trading as JJ & K Bakery Catering Company, R T Toys Limited, De-A Collection Limited, Hin Sum Manpower Company Limited, Chau Kwong Pui and Cable (Hoi Shing) Canteen Limited - did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $40,506.37, $38,587.50, $25,302, $22,977.50, $16,170 and $14,399.32, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other three defendants - Must Rich Properties Limited, Starview Technology Limited and Lee Yok Eng trading as Wong Dao Beauty Parlour - did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $38,317.76, $23,008.28 and $8,830.28, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $250, $186, $186, $160, $100, $96, $246, $230 and $150 as costs in respect of the claims.
Hin Sum Manpower Company limited and Starview Technology Limited previously pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy to 30 counts and eight counts respectively of failing to make MPF contributions on time and were fined $84,500 and $16,500.
