The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, officiated at the opening night reception and premiere of the Hong Kong Film Series "10 Years and Running: Recent Hong Kong Cinema" in New York City today (October 17, New York time).  The film series is co-presented by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York and the Film Society of Lincoln Centre.

At the reception, Mr Tsang acknowledged the achievements of two Hong Kong students - Grace Tsang and Elaine Au - who are in New York to receive an award of the United Nations, for winning an international stamp design competition. Their winning entries, which appeal for global efforts to end poverty, will be adopted by the United Nations as two of its official stamps for 2008.

Before the screening of the opening night film "Triangle", Mr  Tsang said the title of the film series "10 Years and Running" accurately reflected Hong Kong's success story since it became a Special Administrative Region in 1997.

Hong Kong had continued to thrive and impress the international community by being rated a first-class economy and coming out among the top in many categories of assessment, Mr Tsang said.

Mr Tsang arrived in New York City earlier today. In the afternoon, he paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Liu Biwei, Chinese Consul-General in New York.

Mr Tsang continues his programme in New York tomorrow. He will meet officials from the New York Stock Exchange, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and rating agencies. Mr Tsang will also deliver a keynote speech at the Weatherhead Policy Forum at Columbia University.
