The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (October 9) pursued eight claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $150,000 on behalf of 11 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
Defendants, Hin Sum Manpower Company Limited, To Man Fai trading as Blue Bay Swimming Pool Company and Archetype Interactive Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $48,255.28, $46,797.62 and $41,737.50 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other five defendants - Villas Win Property Agency Limited, Shun Hang Ki Engineering Company Limited, Li Kam Moon formerly trading as Tung Hing (Luen Hop) Transportation Co, Vigorous Property Management Limited and Yu Yun On Eric trading as On Fing Engineering - did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $3,704.62, $3,666, $2,111.24, $2,047.50 and $1,370.52 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $160, $290, $236, $156, $116, $150, $76 and $130 as costs in respect of the claims.
Hin Sum Manpower Company limited previously pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy to 30 counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and was fined $84,500.
