SED calls on the Ministry of Education in Beijing (with photos)

    The Secretary of Education, Mr Michael Suen, called on the Minister of Education, Mr Zhou Ji, and Vice-minister, Mr Yuan Guiren, in Beijing today (September 28).

     During the meeting, they exchanged views on issues of mutual concern, including the latest developments in education in Hong Kong and the Mainland, and the further enhancement of mutual communication.

     Mr Suen then visited the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council to meet the Deputy Director, Mr Chen Zuoer. Mr Suen and a delegation, comprising some 150 members of the education sector of Hong Kong, were received by the Vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee, Mr Li Meng, in the Great Hall of the People. They were briefed on the country's further developments in education and details of the 11th Five-Year Plan by officials of the Ministry of Education and the National Development and Reform Commission respectively.

     Mr Suen and the "National Day Delegation from Educational Sector of Hong Kong 2007" arrived in Beijing yesterday. During their stay in the capital, the delegates will take part in various visits and exchange programmes to learn more about the Mainland and its latest development in education, economics, science and technology.  The visit programmes will help the delegates in their work in promoting national education among Hong Kong's younger generation.
