Nine employers ordered to pay MPF non-payments

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (September 27) pursued nine claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $190,000 on behalf of employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the tribunal's hearing today, the defendant, Hin Sum Manpower Company Limited, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $47,084.29, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other eight defendants - Standard Lite Corporation Limited, Rivera City Limited trading as Red Diamond Restaurant, Wan Kam Hung trading as Super Sushi Japanese Restaurant, Able Star International Limited, Ocean Mark Limited, Sparkle Angel Limited, Hung Kwan Keung trading as Victoracct & Company and So Kin Kei trading as Tuen Mun Cleaning Company - did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of  $48,535.23, $34,000.50, $21,351.94, $16,905, $9,751.16, $8,772.68, $8,209.75 and $1,470 being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the 213 employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $160, $196, $246, $180, $172, $80, $96, $150 and $130 as costs in respect of the claims.

     Hin Sum Manpower Company limited previously pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy to 30 counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and was fined $84,500.
