New portal "GovHK" officially launched (with photos/video)
**********************************************************

    A new Government portal :GovHK; (www.gov.hk) was officially launched today (August 3) to provide one-stop government online information and services to the public.

     Addressing the ceremony, the Acting Financial Secretary, Mr Frederick Ma, said the launch of GovHK was a new milestone in the development of e-government services in Hong Kong, marking a new citizen-centric approach in public service delivery.

     :To follow-through the Government・s core value of being .Proactive, Pragmatic and Always People First・, we have designed the content and the features of the new portal from the perspectives of users," Mr Ma said.  "Through a user-friendly interface, different information and services are grouped into clusters or subjects for easy access by various user groups - Residents, Business & Trade, Non-Residents and Youth. ;

     Developed and managed by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, GovHK adopts a service clustering approach to help the public access frequently-sought Government information and some 1,200 e-government services.  These clusters include for example environment, education and training, employment, immigration services and taxes and duties.

     Following the integration of the Government Information Centre (www.info.gov.hk) into GovHK in May this year, the online Government services currently offered by the ESDlife website will be migrated to GovHK by the expiry of the Government・s contract with the operator in January next year. After the full migration, GovHK will become the single entry portal for all government information and services.

     Meanwhile, the Government conducted a user satisfaction survey after the soft launch of GovHK in September last year. The survey reflected that 87% of the respondents considered it easy to find the information and services they needed in GovHK, while 79% said they would recommend it to others.  The Government will continue to improve the content of GovHK having regard to users・ feedback.

     At the ceremony, Mr Ma presented awards to winners of the GovHK Photo and Banner Design Competition.  Other officiating guests included the Government Chief Information Officer, Mr Howard Dickson, and Head of the Efficiency Unit, Ms Kitty Choi.

     The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer will stage a series of roving exhibitions featuring demonstration booths and interactive computer games to showcase the information and services provided by GovHK and displaying the winning entries of the GovHK Photo and Banner Design Competition. The first exhibition will be held at the Main Concourse of the Ocean Terminal, Tsim Sha Tsui, from today until Sunday (August 5).
