The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (May 30) obtained an order in the District Court for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $90,000 against an employer. Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued two claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $60,000 on behalf of two employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
The District Court today issued a judgment against MC Consultants Limited. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA $91,079.80, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to one employee of the defendant.
At the tribunal's hearing, defendant, Chung Kin Tai trading as Tai Cheong Neon Light Co, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered him to pay the MPFA $14,644.38, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other defendant, Magic Yield Limited trading as Blissful BBQ Goose & Hot Pot Restaurant (formerly known as Very Good Restaurant), did not appear at today's hearing. In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $49,630.28, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the Tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court and the tribunal further ordered each of the respective defendants to pay costs of $930 for the District Court case and $150 and $360 for the Tribunal cases.
