The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (May 10) pursued four claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $120,000 on behalf of 11 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
At the tribunal's hearing, the defendants, Yiu Wai Engineering Company Limited, Hobby Limited trading as Sun Ho Seafood Restaurant, Lee Ying Fat trading as Kui Wing, WSD Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $48,311.68, $44,666.84, $34,269.38 and $3,510.72, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Tribunal further awarded $176, $336, $170 and $138 as the costs in respect of the claims.
