FS's speech at Chinese New Year Night Parade (with photos)

Following is the speech by the Financial Secretary, Mr Henry Tang, at the 2007 Cathay Pacific International Chinese New Year Night Parade in Tsim Sha Tsui tonight (February 18):

Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,

Kung Hei Fat Choy! I am most delighted to join you this evening to experience the world-renowned Chinese New Year Parade organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board. On behalf of the people of Hong Kong, I would like to extend a warm welcome to our visitors from every corner of the world.

Tonight's event once again makes Hong Kong the focal point of Chinese New Year celebrations around the globe. In its twelfth-year run, the Parade is a prime showcase for visitors to experience our city's unique blend of East and West, as well as its diversity and vibrancy. In a moment, you will be able to enjoy the glittering and magical splendor of this world-class event ¡V the dazzling floats, colourful displays and spectacular international performances. I hope all of you will enjoy our kaleidoscope of new attractions.

As we are celebrating the beginning of the Year of the Pig, I wish everybody good health, happiness and prosperity in the year ahead.

I would also like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy New Year.
