Applications for Secondary One discretionary places close next Monday
**********************************************************

Primary Six (P6) students wishing to apply for a Secondary One (S1) discretionary place  should submit applications to the school or schools they prefer within school office hours not later than next Monday (January 29), a spokesman for the Education and Manpower Bureau said today (January 22).

"Students may apply to not more than two secondary schools participating in the Secondary School Places Allocation (SSPA) System for a discretionary place, be it a government, aided, caput or participating Direct Subsidy Scheme school. Application is not subject to restriction on school nets," the spokesman said.

Parents are reminded that irrespective of whether they have applied for a discretionary place or not, they should complete and submit the Secondary One Choice of Schools Form for central allocation  to the bureau through the primary schools in early May. This was to ensure that their children who have not been successful in the discretionary place application could still be allocated an S1 place through central allocation.

The school choice documents and information of schools in each school net for central allocation will be distributed to all participating P6 students through their primary schools in late April. Parents should note that when a more accurate projection of the actual demand for central allocation in all the school nets is available in early March, the bureau would make an announcement on the netting arrangements, including provision from schools in own district and from schools in other districts to meet the demand.

Parents who have enquiries about the SSPA System may seek advice from their children's primary schools, or contact the bureau's School Places Allocation (SPA) Section (SSPA). The SPA Section is located at 2/F, Lui Kee Education Services Centre, 269 Queen's Road East, Wan Chai, and the telephone numbers are 2832 7740 and 2832 7700.
