EMB to distribute leaflet and VCD on SSPA
*****************************************

Parents of Primary Six (P6) students participating in the 2005/2007 Secondary School Places Allocation (SSPA) System would receive an information leaflet and a VCD on the SSPA System through their children's primary schools within the next few days, a spokesman for the Education and Manpower Bureau said today (October 31).

"Starting from this allocation cycle, parents' choices of schools will be further increased. At the Discretionary Places (DP) stage, the maximum DP quota has increased to 30% for each secondary school. Parents are allowed to apply for Secondary One (S1) places to any two secondary schools participating in the SSPA System, irrespective of school nets," the spokesman said.

"Besides, at the Central Allocation (CA) stage, allocation unrestricted by school nets is introduced, and parents may choose a maximum of three secondary schools from any school nets. Within their children's own net, parents can still choose a maximum of 30 secondary schools."

For this allocation cycle, all government, aided and caput schools as well as Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS) schools participating in the SSPA System will accept DP applications from December 28, 2006, to January 29, 2007. The bureau will distribute two copies of Application Form for S1 Discretionary Place to each P6 student through their primary school by the end of November for parents' use in making DP applications to not more than two participating schools.

Before applying to a school, parents are still required to enquire directly from the school concerned for its admission criteria and weightings, and the necessary documents to be submitted.

"If parents are found to have applied to more than two participating schools, their children's DP applications will be rendered void," the spokesman said.

The Information Leaflet and VCD on the SSPA System for this allocation cycle have been uploaded on the bureau's homepage (www.emb.gov.hk) for parents' reference.
