Two employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (September 11) obtained an order in the District Court for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at around $330,000 against an employer. The MPFA also pursued a claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $2,000 on behalf of an employee, who was owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     The District Court today issued a judgment against the employer, Tong Kin Pong trading as Tat Hing Kitchen Design & Engineering Co. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA  $337,628.72, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 22 employees of the defendant respectively.

     At the tribunal's hearing today, the defendant, Bona Bonus International Holdings Limited, did not appear.  In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA  $1,981.45, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded at the District Court and the Tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court and the Tribunal respectively further awarded payments of $930 for the District Court case and $580 as the cost in respect of the Small Claims Tribunal case.
