Senior Appointments (with photos)

    The Government announced today (August 8) the following senior appointments:

* Ms Anissa Wong, Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, will take up the post of Permanent Secretary for the Environment, Transport and Works (Environment)/Director of Environmental Protection on September 13, 2006; and

* Mr Thomas Chow, Deputy Secretary for the Environment, Transport and Works (Transport), will take up the post of Director of Leisure and Cultural Services on August 31, 2006.

     Commenting on the appointments, the Secretary for the Civil Service, Miss Denise Yue, said: ¡§Ms Wong and Mr Chow are experienced Administrative Officers with rich experience in public administration and proven leadership and management abilities. I am confident that they will continue to serve the community with professionalism and dedication in their new capacities, and ably lead their departments to meet the challenges ahead.¡¨

     Brief biographical notes on the two officers are set out below:

Ms Anissa Wong Sean-yee, JP

     Aged 49. Ms Wong joined the Government in July, 1979, as an Executive Officer. She was appointed to the Administrative Service in September, 1979, and rose to her present rank of Administrative Officer Staff Grade A in April, 2004.

     Ms Wong has served in various bureaux and departments, including the former New Territories Administration, the former Housing Branch, the former Education Branch, the Lands Department, the former City and New Territories Administration, the former Survey Office, the former Urban Services Department, the former Chief Secretary¡¦s Office, the Information Services Department, the former Security Branch and the former Industry Department. She was Deputy Director-General of Industry from March, 1996, to April, 1997, and Deputy Secretary for the Civil Service from April, 1997, to February, 2003. She has been Director of Leisure and Cultural Services since February, 2003.

Mr Thomas Chow Tat-ming, JP

     Aged 46. Mr Chow joined the Administrative Service in December, 1984, and rose to his present rank of Administrative Officer Staff Grade B1 in April, 2005.

     Mr Chow has served in various bureaux and departments, including the former City and New Territories Administration (and later the Home Affairs Department), the Social Welfare Department, the former General Duties Branch, the former Monetary Affairs Branch, the former Government House and the Financial Secretary¡¦s Office. He was Deputy Secretary for Transport from July, 1999, to April, 2000, and Deputy Secretary for the Environment and Food (later retitled Deputy Secretary for the Environment, Transport and Works (Environment)) from April, 2000, to June, 2004. He has been Deputy Secretary for the Environment, Transport and Works (Transport) since July, 2004.
