Careers Guidance Handbook for S7 Graduates (with photo)
*******************************************************

The "Careers Guidance Handbook for Secondary 7 Graduates", jointly produced by the Education and Manpower Bureau and the Hong Kong Association of Careers Masters and Guidance Masters, has  been published. The handbook provides a comprehensive guide to further education opportunities in the 2006-07 academic year available to current year Secondary 7 (S7) graduates, and enables these graduates to have a better understanding on various progression pathways.

"The Government has been promoting multiple progression pathways in recent years for the purpose of providing diversified further study opportunities to meet students' different needs," a bureau spokesman said today (June 27). "Apart from the UGC-funded programmes, there are also self-financing post-secondary programmes, professional and vocational training courses, etc.".

The Handbook comprises three parts: part one is Student Guidance, which includes inspirational articles written by the Hong Kong Association of Careers Masters and Guidance Masters. The second part, Further Studies, consists of details of various progression pathways provided by respective institutions, including self-financing post-secondary programmes, professional and vocational training courses, continuing education programmes and overseas study opportunities, etc. The last part is Contact List of Relevant Organisations, which lists out contact methods of different educational and advisory organisations.

The "Careers Guidance Handbook for Secondary 7 Graduates" will be distributed to all secondary schools with S7 graduates, and are also available at the following places:

* The bureau's Regional Education Offices
* Labour Department's Careers Information Centres
* Public Enquiry Service Centres of the Home Affairs Department
* Information Expo for Secondary School Leavers 2006 (July 29 and 30, Plaza Hollywood, Diamond Hill)
