HA awards contract for remaining works at Fanling project
*********************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Housing Authority:

The Housing Authority's (HA) Tender Committee today (June 22) awarded a building contract to Yau Lee Construction Co Ltd for completing the remaining works at Fanling Area 36 Phase 1.

ˇ§This is the last of the three contracts awarded following the Authority's forfeiture of the previous contracts of the projects earlier this year due to the serious delay in progress of the works,ˇ¨ a spokesman for the Authority said.

ˇ§Works at the two other projects -- the Redevelopment of Shek Pai Wan Estate Phase 2 and Fanling Area 36 Phase 2 -- resumed last month and are proceeding smoothly,ˇ¨ the spokesman said.

Remaining works at Fanling Area 36 Phase 1 comprise three 41-storey and two 36-storey domestic blocks providing a total of 3 167 flats, a commercial centre, an open carpark and associated drainage and external works to be completed in 24 months.

ˇ§Similar with the other two projects, the contractor is the highest scorer in the tender exercise and is also required to employ at least 80% of the sub-contractors employed in the previous building contract,ˇ¨ the spokesman said.

The sum of the contract valued at $551.548 million represents an increase of $96 million or 21% when compared with the outstanding value of the previous contract.
