MPFA recovers MPF non-payment for 16 employees

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (June 14) pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $200,000 on behalf of 16 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At today's hearing, the defendant, Saiton Engineering Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed.  The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of  $17,416.88, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other five defendants - Tsoi Mau Hung and Fong Chun Hing trading as Wing Lun Construction Co., Nuclear Construction and Engineering Company Limited, Fung Chung Lok trading as Studio Paragon International, Glory Top Construction Engineering Limited and Watery Ocean Restaurant Company Limited - did not appear at today's hearing.  In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of  $47,730.04, $47,040, $42,997.5, $40,334.44 and $12,534.7, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $350, $250, $160, $170, $280 and $240 as the costs in respect of the claims.
