Chief Executive opens Hong Kong Wetland Park
********************************************

The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, officiated this afternoon (May 19) at the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong Wetland Park (HKWP), which was attended by over 200 guests. HKWP will be open to the public tomorrow (May 20).

"A primary task of Hong Kong Wetland Park is to promote environmental protection and ecological balance. I encourage the public to visit the wetland park and introduce this treasure of nature and world-class green tourism facility to friends and relatives overseas," Mr Tsang said at the ceremony.

Located at the northern part of Tin Shui Wai, HKWP is the first major green tourism facility in Hong Kong. It aims to promote green tourism and education on environmental protection, as well as wetland conservation. The park comprises a 10,000 square metre indoor "Wetland Interactive World", and wetland reserve of more than 60 hectares. HKWP is the first of its kind in Asia.

The layout of the park is carefully designed by the Architectural Services Department to ensure harmony with the surrounding environment and no disturbance to the wildlife. The building materials are used in an environmentally friendly way. Its design has recently been awarded the 2005 Medal of the Year by the Hong Kong Institute of Architects.

Visitors can start visiting HKWP from tomorrow. The opening hours are from 10am to 5pm. The entrance fee for adults is $30 and $15 for children, students and seniors $15. Groups can also book their tickets online at www.wetlandpark.com.
