Equestrian company announces appointment of Chief Executive Officer

The following is issued on behalf of the Equestrian Events (Hong Kong) of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad Company Limited:

The company responsible for implementing the organisational work of the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Events (the Events) announced today (March 3) the appointment of Mr Lam Woon-kwong as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The Equestrian Events (Hong Kong) of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad Company Limited (the Equestrian Company), incorporated on February 15, 2006, offered the appointment to Mr Lam after an open recruitment programme with applications from Hong Kong and overseas having been considered.  Mr Lam will be in post on March 8, 2006 and lead the Equestrian Company through to the end of the events.

The Secretary for Home Affairs, Dr Patrick Ho, who is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Equestrian Company, said the board was confident that Mr Lam was the most suitable person to organise this massive venture.  

"Mr Lam was considered by the Selection Board as a highly capable and well qualified candidate who could deliver a high standard international sporting event," Dr Ho said.

"By appointing Mr Lam to be the CEO, we can be sure that the organisational work of the events is in the best possible hands.  Mr Lam's rich experience in public administration and exposure to sports policies will turn the events into a wonderful spectacle."

The Beijing Organising Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (the Equestrian Committee) is set up to give directives and make policy decisions for the staging and organisation of the events.  The Equestrian Events (Hong Kong) of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad Company Limited is the executive body set up to implement the organisation work of the Events.  

Dr Ho is also the Executive Vice-President of the Equestrian Committee while the Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs and the President of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, Mr Timothy Fok, are vice-chairmen of the board of directors  of the Equestrian Company.
