Illegal poultry slaughtering factory smashed in Yuen Long (with photos)

    The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) discovered an illegal poultry slaughtering factory in Yuen Long during a blitz operation conducted early this morning (February 17).

     Acting on information, FEHD officers took action at about 5.30am upon detection of illegal poultry slaughtering activities inside a temporary structure at Kai Pak Leng, Lau Fau Shan.

     About 80 dressed poultry were seized by FEHD officers and about 1,000 live chickens found on the premises were handed over to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department for further action.

     During the operation, a man was also arrested and he is assisting with the investigation.

     According to the Food Business Regulation, the maximum penalty for operating an unlicensed food factory is a fine of $50,000 and six months' imprisonment plus a daily fine of $900.
