Recall of 13 proprietary Chinese medicines of same batch number (with photos)

    The Department of Health (DH) today (January 17) ordered the immediate recall of 13 proprietary Chinese medicines (pCm) after laboratory test revealed that the total bacterial count of the above products exceeded maximum permitted limit for registration of pCm.

     A spokesman for the department urged members of the public not to buy or take these products of production batch number 50069 produced by Hong Kong Chi Chung Tang Herbal Factory.

     These products are namely:

* Chu Pai Hou Tsao San,
* Bo Ying Pills,
* Hou Tsao San,
* Xian Cao Tang Chu Pai Hou Tsao San,
* Chi Chun Tang Pearl Bat Po Keng Foong Powder,
* Chi Chun Tang Chu Pai Chut Lee San,
* Chi Chun Tang Chu Pai Bo Ying Dan,
* Chi Chun Tang Chu Pai Hou Tsao San,
* Hung Win Bo Ying Pills,
* Chu Pai Chut Lee San,
* Bao Zhu Brand Chut Lee San,
* Bao Zhu Brand Bo Ying Pillsand
* Bao Zhu Brand Hou Tsao San.

     Laboratory tests revealed that the total bacterial count of the above products exceeded maximum permitted limit for registration of pCm.

     "Members of the public who have purchased the batch of products are advised to stop using them, dispose of the product or surrender it to the Pharmaceutical Service of DH at 3/F, Public Health Laboratory Centre, 382 Nam Cheong Street, Kowloon during office hours," he said.

     DH investigated into the products upon receipt of a referral from the Macau Government regarding the recall of a pCm called Chi Chun Tang Chu Pai Bo Ying Dan of production batch number 40001, of which the microbial content was found to exceed the maximum permitted limit for pCm registration in Macau.  

     DH tested the pCm in question and other related products marketed in Hong Kong by the manufacturer. The manufacturer voluntarily recalled Chi Chun Tang Chu Pai Bo Ying Dan from the market. Tests for batch 40001 are still on-going.  

     Members of the public can call the manufacturer's hotline at 2793 0123 for matters related to recall of the products.

     DH has also set up a telephone enquiry service at 2319 5119 for members of the public during office hours.
