Following is the transcript of remarks by the Financial Secretary, Mr Henry Tang, to the media after attending a Budget consultation forum at the Olympian City, Tai Kok Tsui this afternoon (January 14):
Reporter: How would the Government … alleviate the burden of the middle class?
Financial Secretary: Ever since the formulation of my first Budget, I have valued views from the public very much because they help me to formulate a Budget that balances the needs of all sectors. Also at the same time, they put me closer to the people so that I will understand what they are saying more. Obviously, with the economic recovery, there are a lot of views asking me to reduce taxes. It is something that I am considering and you don’t have to wait very long for the results.
