A 23-minute fireworks display will light up Victoria Harbour on Saturday night (October 1) to celebrate the 56th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. A total of 30,000 firing shells will be discharged in the display, beginning at 9 o'clock pm.
The display is sponsored by The Federation of Hong Kong Chiu Chow Community Organisations and co-ordinated by the Home Affairs Bureau. The sponsorship amount is $3 million.
Divided into 12 spectacular scenes, the fireworks will be discharged from two barges and eight pontoons.
This year's fireworks display, with the theme of "Unity and Joyfulness" will carry a strong message to encourage local people and people of the world as a whole.
The first scene is known as "Unity is Power" - creating a big scenery of hard-working bees. The fifth scene "The Olympics Equestrian Event in Hong Kong" - brings out the comets like horses galloping fast across the sky, celebrating Hong Kong winning the right to organise the 2008 Olympic Games - Equestrian Event, and also demonstrating the braveness and courage of Hong Kong people.
The ninth scene - "One World One Dream"- featuring colourful rings of silver '0' and red '8', symbolising all people in the world share "One World, One Dream".
For the last scene "Love our Motherland", red stars will be discharged over the sky. Brocade crown with silver glittering covers the sky while layers of golden waves add excitement to the grand finale, wishing all the best to the home country and HKSAR.
The display can be seen from many vantage points on both sides of the harbour, including Mid-levels, Central District, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay and Hung Hom Bypass. However, part of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza and Tsim Sha Tsui East will be closed due to construction work.
To increase their enjoyment, viewers are invited to tune to Radio Television Hong Kong Radio Four (FM 97.6 - 98.9) for synchronised music.
People are urged to help keep public areas clean and to show respect for public property. Please show consideration in order to make the event a safe one.
