Welcome card and bookmark design competition on Ministerial
Conference
************************************************************

All primary and secondary schools are invited to participate in the Primary and Secondary School Students' Welcome Card and Bookmark Design Competition for the Hong Kong Ministerial Conference (HKMC) of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in December.

With "Welcome our friends from all over the world" as the theme, the competition, organised by the HKMC Co-ordination Office of the WTO and the Education and Manpower Bureau (EMB), aims to provide an opportunity through creative welcome card and bookmark design for local youngsters to express a warm welcome to the guests of the conference.

All primary and secondary school students are eligible to participate in the competition, which is divided into four groups: Lower Primary (Primary 1 to Primary 3), Upper Primary (Primary 4 to Primary 6), Junior Secondary (Secondary 1 to Secondary 3) and Senior Secondary (Secondary 4 to Secondary 7).

Participants may use any kind of skills, materials and styles to create their single sided welcome card (270mm x 180mm) or bookmark (240mm x 40mm) design in 2-dimensional form. Individual design of either welcome card or bookmark should be produced on a piece of A3 size cartridge paper (420mm x 297mm) by painting, collage or printing technique. Any entries will be selected for reproduction as souvenir and publicity purposes when deemed appropriate.

Each school should submit no more than 20 entries of each category for each group. Each student is eligible to participate in both categories of design, but only one entry for each category can be submitted.

All entries will be initially selected by the Arts Education Section of the EMB for an outstanding award. The adjudication panel will select three pieces of excellent artwork from the outstanding entries in each group of the two categories (24 entries in total will be selected). Winners will be awarded a Certificate of Excellence and a HK$1,000 book coupon each.

All entries should be submitted to the Arts Education Section, EMB at 5th floor, 4 Pak Fuk Road, North Point, Hong Kong on or before October 15.

For enquiries, please contact the section at 2564 9662.

In addition, the EMB is developing learning materials based on the relevant topics of various curricula. Schools are encouraged to make use of this opportunity to help students broaden their insights and grow up as global citizens. The resources, covering different levels of primary and secondary schools, will be made available on the EMB's website in mid-October.
