Transcript of SETW on distribution of traffic at
harbour crossings

*************************************************

Following is a transcript of the Secretary for the Environment, Transport and Works, Dr Sarah Liao's stand-up session after attending a Lay-by ceremony in Central today (April 19):

Reporter: About various options for improving the distribution of traffic at the three road harbour crossings....?

Dr Liao: Of the 12 options, some can be done by the Transport Department alone, of course that we would do unless the community think they are not useful. Some require LegCo's approval, which means the public also has to support it. And the rest, that means the four suggestions that involve the cross-harbour companies, we need to have a deal between the companies and ourselves, and that means we need time to sort out, I mean time for negotiation.

Reporter: Any timetable?

Dr Liao: We haven't talked about the timetable yet, we would need preliminary discussion first to see which way to go.

Reporter: Do you have any options in mind?

Dr Liao: Not at the moment.
