CE on elections to the second HKSAR LegCo *****************************************

The Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, made the following statement today (September 11) on the second Legislative Council elections of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region :

I congratulate all elected members of the second Legislative Council. The Government will work closely with the Legislative Council and look forward to building up a good and constructive working relationship with all members.

I will invite the Councillors-elect to meetings in groups over the next few weeks. I look forward to exchanging views with them on issues of concern to the community.

The entire electoral process has been conducted in an open, fair and honest manner. Credit should go to the independent Electoral Affairs Commission headed by Mr Justice Woo Kwok-hing, and all electoral staff.

This election has marked a further step forward in the implementation of constitutional reforms in Hong Kong in accordance with the Basic Law.
