Following is a transcript of the media session of the Chief Executive at Election Press Centre after the close of polling:

Chief Executive: The election for the members of the second Legislative Council has just been completed. The whole process was conducted in a fair and open and very clean manner. Although the number of participants for this election and the rate has been somewhat less than 1998, the whole process has been a very successful and very smooth one. I particularly would like to thank Justice K H Woo and his Commission, as well as all those who have participated to make this election a very smooth and successful one, because it is your effort which has made the election such a great success.

I also want to thank all those who have come to the polling stations to cast their ballots. There're over 1.3 million who have cast their ballots today. We are looking forward to working with the new legislature, the 60 members of the new legislature, to work together for the betterment of Hong Kong as a whole. Thank you very much.
