Under the recently revised Gambling Ordinance, anyone who receives a bet by way of trade or business commits a criminal offence, whether the bet is received within or outside of Hong Kong.

Once convicted, he or she is liable to a fine of five million dollars and to seven years' imprisonment. Anyone who bets with an illegal gambling operator also commits an offence which may result in a fine and imprisonment.
