LOCAL WEATHER FORECAST

HERE IS THE LATEST WEATHER BULLETIN ISSUED BY THE HONG KONG
OBSERVATORY.


 
GENERAL SITUATION


UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF A DRY NORTHEAST MONSOON, THE LOCAL
WEATHER WAS FINE YESTERDAY. IT WAS COOL IN THE MORNING.
TEMPERATURES WERE GENERALLY TWO TO THREE DEGREES LOWER THAN
THOSE OF THE DAY BEFORE. IT WAS VERY DRY DURING THE DAY,
THE RELATIVE HUMIDITY OVER MOST PARTS OF THE TERRITORY FELL
BELOW 40 PER CENT. BESIDES, PRESSURE ROSE OVER THE NORTHERN
PART OF SOUTHERN CHINA LAST NIGHT. A REPLENISHMENT OF THE
NORTHEAST MONSOON IS EXPECTED TO REACH THE COAST OF
SOUTHERN CHINA AT FIRST TODAY. UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF THE
REPLENISHMENT OF THE MONSOON, TEMPERATURES OVER THE COAST
OF GUANGDONG WILL DROP SLIGHTLY TODAY AND TOMORROW. THE
WEATHER OVER THE REGION WILL BE COOL IN THE MORNING,
GENERALLY FINE AND VERY DRY DURING THE DAY, WITH A RATHER
LARGE TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DAY AND NIGHT.


 
ON THE OTHER HAND, TROPICAL STORM KOTO INTENSIFIED INTO A
SEVERE TROPICAL STORM YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. AT 1 A.M., KOTO
WAS CENTRED ABOUT 280 KILOMETRES NORTH-NORTHEAST OF NANSHA.
IT IS FORECAST TO MOVE WEST SLOWLY ACROSS THE SOUTHERN PART
OF THE SOUTH CHINA SEA.


 
WEATHER FORECAST FOR HONG KONG


 
IT WILL BE FINE. COOL IN THE MORNING. THE MINIMUM
TEMPERATURE WILL BE ABOUT 17 DEGREES IN THE URBAN AREAS,
AND A FEW DEGREES LOWER IN THE NEW TERRITORIES. VERY DRY
DURING THE DAY WITH A MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE OF AROUND 22
DEGREES. MODERATE TO FRESH NORTH TO NORTHEASTERLY WINDS,
OCCASIONALLY STRONG OFFSHORE AND ON HIGH GROUND LATER.


 
OUTLOOK : PERSISTENTLY FINE AND VERY DRY ON FRIDAY, WINDY
AT FIRST. TEMPERATURES IN THE MORNING WILL FALL TO AROUND
15 TO 16 DEGREES IN THE URBAN AREAS, AND A FEW DEGREES
LOWER IN THE NEW TERRITORIES. BECOMING CLOUDY LATER ON
SATURDAY. ONE OR TWO RAIN PATCHES IN THE FOLLOWING COUPLE
OF DAYS.
