************************************************************************
TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN (SIGNAL NO. 1)

TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN

HERE IS THE LATEST TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN ISSUED
BY THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY.

THE STANDBY SIGNAL, NO. 1 IS IN FORCE.

THIS MEANS THAT A TROPICAL CYCLONE NOW CENTRED WITHIN ABOUT
800 KILOMETRES OF HONG KONG MAY AFFECT US.

SEVERE TROPICAL STORM KAJIKI HAS INTENSIFIED INTO A TYPHOON.

AT 7 A.M., KAJIKI WAS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT 620 KILOMETRES
SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF HONG KONG (NEAR 17.4 DEGREES NORTH 111.4
DEGREES EAST) AND IS FORECAST TO MOVE WEST AT ABOUT 18
KILOMETRES PER HOUR TOWARDS THE SEAS SOUTH OF HAINAN ISLAND.

ALTHOUGH KAJIKI HAS INTENSIFIED SLIGHTLY IN THE PAST FEW
HOURS, IT CONTINUED TO MOVE STEADILY WESTWARDS AWAY FROM
HONG KONG. A FEW SQUALLY SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE
EXPECTED OVER HONG KONG TODAY. WINDS WILL BE OCCASIONALLY
STRONG OFFSHORE AND ON HIGH GROUND. THE STANDBY SIGNAL, NO.
1 WILL REMAIN IN FORCE AT LEAST UNTIL 9 A.M. TODAY.

WHEN KAJIKI MOVES FURTHER AWAY FROM HONG KONG AND NO LONGER
POSES A THREAT TO THE TERRITORY, THE OBSERVATORY WILL
CANCEL ALL TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING SIGNALS.

THERE WILL BE SWELLS. MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC ARE ADVISED TO
STAY AWAY FROM THE SHORELINE AND NOT TO ENGAGE IN WATER
SPORTS.

(PRECAUTIONARY ANNOUNCEMENTS WITH NO. 1 SIGNAL)

1. PRECAUTIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN. DRAINS SHOULD BE CLEARED OF
OBSTRUCTIONS, AND WINDOWS AND DOORS SHOULD BE CHECKED.

2. PEOPLE IN AREAS OF EXPOSED TO HIGH WINDS OR IN LOW-LYING
