TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN

HERE IS THE LATEST TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN ISSUED
BY THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY.

THE STANDBY SIGNAL, NO. 1 IS IN FORCE.

THIS MEANS THAT A TROPICAL CYCLONE NOW CENTRED WITHIN ABOUT
800 KILOMETRES OF HONG KONG MAY AFFECT US.

AT 5 P.M., TROPICAL STORM KAJIKI WAS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT
530 KILOMETRES SOUTH OF HONG KONG (NEAR 17.5 DEGREES NORTH
114.5 DEGREES EAST) AND IS FORECAST TO MOVE WEST AT ABOUT
22 KILOMETRES PER HOUR IN THE GENERAL DIRECTION OF THE SEAS
SOUTH OF HAINAN ISLAND.

IN THE PAST FEW HOURS, KAJIKI CONTINUED TO MOVE WESTWARDS
STEADILY. OCCASIONALLY STRONG WINDS STARTED TO AFFECT
OFFSHORE AND HIGH GROUND OVER THE SOUTHERN PART OF THE
TERRITORY. ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT FORECAST, KAJIKI WILL
BE CLOSEST TO HONG KONG TONIGHT, SKIRTING AROUND 500
KILOMETRES TO THE SOUTH OF HONG KONG WHILE INTENSIFYING
FURTHER. OCCASIONALLY STRONG WINDS WILL AFFECT THE SOUTHERN
PART OF HONG KONG AND THE ADJACENT WATERS FOR THE REST OF
TODAY AND TOMORROW MORNING. THE OBSERVATORY WILL CLOSELY
MONITOR THE CHANGES IN LOCAL WINDS. UNLESS KAJIKI UNDERGOES
RAPID INTENSIFICATION SIGNIFICANTLY, OR ADOPTS A MORE
NORTHERLY TRACK, THE STANDBY SIGNAL, NO. 1 WILL REMAIN IN
FORCE AT LEAST UNTIL 9 A.M. TOMORROW.

THE OUTER RAINBANDS ASSOCIATED WITH KAJIKI ARE AFFECTING
THE WATERS SOUTH OF HONG KONG AND EDGING CLOSER TO THE
COAST OF GUANGDONG GRADUALLY. A FEW SQUALLY SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED OVER THE TERRITORY TONIGHT AND
