TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN
HERE IS THE LATEST TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN ISSUED
BY THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY.
THE STANDBY SIGNAL, NO. 1 IS IN FORCE.
THIS MEANS THAT A TROPICAL CYCLONE NOW CENTRED WITHIN ABOUT
800 KILOMETRES OF HONG KONG MAY AFFECT US.
AT NOON, TROPICAL STORM KAJIKI WAS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT
560 KILOMETRES SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF HONG KONG (NEAR 17.4
DEGREES NORTH 115.6 DEGREES EAST) AND IS FORECAST TO MOVE
WEST AT ABOUT 25 KILOMETRES PER HOUR IN THE GENERAL
DIRECTION OF THE SEAS SOUTH OF HAINAN ISLAND.
IN THE PAST FEW HOURS, KAJIKI MOVED WESTWARDS STEADILY AND
INTENSIFIED GRADUALLY. ITS STRONG WINDS ARE STILL AT A
DISTANCE FROM THE COAST OF GUANGDONG. THE STANDBY SIGNAL,
NO. 1 WILL REMAIN IN FORCE AT LEAST UNTIL 5 P.M. TODAY.
KAJIKI IS EXPECTED TO SKIRT AROUND 500 KILOMETRES OR MORE
TO THE SOUTH OF HONG KONG TONIGHT AND TOMORROW MORNING.
WINDS WILL BE OCCASIONALLY STRONG OVER THE SOUTHERN PART OF
THE TERRITORY AND THE ADJACENT WATERS BY THEN. THE
OBSERVATORY WILL CLOSELY MONITOR THE CHANGES IN LOCAL
WINDS.
LOCALLY, IT WILL STILL BE MAINLY FINE AND VERY HOT IN THE
AFTERNOON TODAY. WITH THE OUTER RAINBANDS ASSOCIATED WITH
KAJIKI EDGING CLOSER TO THE COAST OF GUANGDONG GRADUALLY,
IT IS EXPECTED TO BECOME CLOUDY WITH A FEW SHOWERS AND
SQUALLY THUNDERSTORMS LATER. THERE WILL BE SWELLS. IT WILL
BE WINDIER WITH OCCASIONAL SQUALLY SHOWERS TOMORROW.
MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC ARE ADVISED TO STAY AWAY FROM THE
SHORELINE AND NOT TO ENGAGE IN WATER SPORTS.

2. PEOPLE IN AREAS OF EXPOSED TO HIGH WINDS OR IN LOW-LYING
AREAS SHOULD TAKE PRECAUTIONS AGAINST STRONG WINDS AND
FLOODING.
3. FISHING VESSELS AND LOW POWER VESSELS IN OPEN SEA SHOULD
SEEK SHELTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND BE SECURED PROPERLY
WITH MOORINGS.
4. CONSTRUCTION AND PROPERTY MANAGEMENT PRACTITIONERS
SHOULD MAKE SURE THAT OVERHANGING FACILITIES AND TEMPORARY
STRUCTURES OUTDOORS ARE SECURELY FASTENED, AND SHOULD TAKE
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES.
5. THOSE WHO HAVE DUTIES DURING A TROPICAL CYCLONE SHOULD
NOW REMAIN ON CALL.
